A dog owner decided to treat her pet pooch to a bedroom makeover, with the impressive results subsequently shared to TikTok.

Online content creator Toni Daley, who specializes in advising women on hair and beauty, took to social media to share footage of her impressive "doggy bedroom makeover." The resulting clip did not disappoint, earning over 5.4 million views and a glut of comments commending her creative efforts. Daley's dog Marley, who is a Pomchi, a cross between a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua, was equally impressed with the results.

While some may criticize the time and expense of gifting something to a pet, studies have shown that spending money on a dog rather than yourself can potentially boost your mood. In a series of experiments conducted by researchers from Columbia University, the theory was put to the test. First, 149 people who had pets were asked at random to recall a time they spent $5 either on themselves, their pets or another person.

Those spending money on themselves often recalled buying snacks or drinks. Those who bought for others remembered small gifts. Those who purchased something for a pet recalled it being a toy, treat or outfit. Each participant was asked to describe the event in detail and then fill out a survey answering questions to determine how happy they felt in their lives. The results showed that those who recalled a time they bought something for a pet were happier than the other two groups.

Next, 200 pet owners recruited from a Chicago commuter train were given $5 each and asked to spend it on themselves, a friend or a pet before 8 P.M. that night and then answer an email survey. Once again, those buying for themselves purchased food, while those buying for someone else made small donations or also bought something edible for a friend. Those purchasing for a pet, meanwhile, opted to buy toys or treats.

Quizzed again on their overall happiness, the results showed that those spending the money on pets reported feeling happier than the other two groups. Reflecting on the findings, lead research Michael White concluded: "Buying their pet a gift might not turn a sad pet owner into a happy one, but our findings suggest an opportunity for pet owners to experience greater happiness."

Daley certainly appears to be doing her level best to build a happier life for herself and her pet pooch if the viral clip shared to social media under the handle tonidaleyofficial is anything to go by. It can be watched here.

The 52-second video begins with Daley discarding her dog's cozy old bed. Pet fans need not worry though; in its place comes a headboard, snazzy zig-zag patterned rug and a comfortable looking dog-sized double mattress complete with bed sheets and blanket.

A bedside table comes next, complete with a calming diffuser, potted plant and super-cute miniature imitation book. Daley adds a hand-drawn picture of a dog's paw in a frame to the wall while a couple of well-deserved doggy treats are added to the bedside drawer.

A pillow and teddy bear are added for that final touch of class with Daley concluding the video by panning around the room to reveal Marley's new sleeping quarters have been set up near the foot of her owner's bed.

The dog owner's creative efforts drew widespread praise on social media with brit.ta.neee declaring: "This is the cutest thing I've ever seen" while jonathanwarrenthedog adding: "you won the internet today!"

Some came off as borderline jealous of the pet pooch's lifestyle. "This dog living a better life than a lot of humans," Villatron said, with slyinspireme commenting: "It's more beautiful than my bedroom."

Others, meanwhile, doubted the setup would stay intact in the paws of their dogs. "My dog would eat everything in sight," kaychelled wrote. "My dog would DESTROY this. I wish we could have nice things," low_waste_plant_based added.

Elsewhere, some expressed skepticism over whether their dog would end up using the bed, particularly with their owner sleeping so comfortably and spaciously nearby. "I could do this and my dogs would still take up all my bed," ajadang said. Christine Whitlock was sold on the concept though, responding: "every dog owner should have this."

Daley told Newsweek she was inspired to spruce her dog's room up out of her own "love for home decor," which she regularly posts about on Instagram.

"I've always hated the fact that my dog's plain fuzzy bed just didn't match the look and feel of the rest of my home so I decided to change that," she said. "My favorite thing about my dog's new decor is her adorable night stand which doubles as snack storage. She loves a midnight snack before bed!"

Marley is a 14-year-old Pomchi who has been with Daley since her birth. "She is a relatively quiet and well behaved dog but still has quite a bit of energy for a senior. She enjoys spending time in the yard, sunbathing, and afternoon naps!"

Marley has been enjoying plenty of dog naps in her new sleeping quarters. "She loves her new bed," Daley said. "She has always loved having her own space and doesn't sleep in mine."

Daley would encourage other pet owners to do something similar, explaining that much of Marley's room came together as a result of her being "creative with everyday items." "Marley's 'lamp' is a car accessory, her 'rug' is a non-slip kitchen mat and her 'bed sheet' is a scarf so you never know where you'll find inspiration," Daley said.
