Tuna is pet of the week at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society. He's a 9-year-old, 12-pound, male, Domestic Short Hair cat with a Brown Tabby coat.

Tuna was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society in 2015 through the FOCAS (Friends of County Animal Services) program. He was adopted right away. Now his owners' schedules changed, and they returned Tuna after 7-1/2 years.

Tuna lived in a home with two adults and another male cat. He got daily play sessions and he enjoyed playing with toy mice, string, balls, and his cat friend.

His family says Tuna is gentle, calm, friendly, curious, clingy, and outgoing.

The $75 adoption fee for Tuna includes medical exam, neuter, up to date vaccinations, and registered microchip. For information about adoption or to foster a pet until it is adopted visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas, call 760-753-6413, or log on to www.SDpets.org.

Open 11 to 4 Friday through Monday, and by appointment Wednesday and Thursday.

This Sunday, July 31st, is National Mutt Day. A mutt is a combination of different breeds. Most dogs in America are mutts.

· Mixed breed dogs are thought to be healthier than purebreds.

· When you get a mutt, you're NOT supporting a puppy mill.

· They make terrific companion and service dogs.

Find out how you can adopt a mutt or sponsor a mutt until it is adopted.
