The source of all popular culture

For thousands of years, the Maya predicted that the world would end in 2012. Specifically, they said that everything will change, and the only thing left is the spirit, in the process of evolving to a higher level. What they didn't realize was that the journey would have an original soundtrack with a tone from the Andromeda Vortex, because an alternative rock waveform full of emotions and genre curves opened the way for a wayward earth.

In front of the 15-year-old Anastasia Grace, her charming presence adds a sense of mystery to the whole process, while her 19-year-old brother Maxamillion is on either side of her, and he is shaping the exhibition’s Share vocal responsibilities while vocal direction. Connecting their entire lives musically, this energetic duo has been performing live for the past six years. The initial writing of their first EP began in early 2015. In these meetings, the song instantly consolidated their status as a force that cannot be ignored, the fiery Gothic mysticism of "all black".

The hypnotic refrain composed by Anastasia at the age of 12, "Where did you go, did you come back, where did you go when everything turned dark", is a strong protest against abandonment , And the resulting darkness we left behind. Love. It doesn't just leave a trace. It will leave scars, but don't be afraid of the darkness, because even in the middle of the night, there is light. A strange voice full of soul, subconsciously encourages you to never let go, the strength built up from the moment of weakness will help soothe the hole in your soul. The corresponding visual effects were directed by Chris Hill, who is known for his groundbreaking video for Cut Copy's "Free Your Mind", which starred True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, who embodied their vision as a crazy car The submerged school bus in the monster mask fancy dress ball is the epitome of disaster. Its cinematography sings in times of anxiety.

Combined with the release of the video, it quickly gained 100,000 views. The organization cooperated with the Stop Bullying Immediately Foundation to help end the epidemic of bullying among young people today, empowering them through counseling, life skills training, and open communication and creative channels.

To understand the depth of The Haunt is to dig below the surface. Their EP of the same name is based on eclectic influences, such as Twenty-One Pilots, Cage The Elephant, Lumineers, Jack White and Billie Holiday. It is a whirling dance music of the ups and downs of two young souls in convergence and different roles. . Blending elements of alternative music, indie music, rock music, garage and blues, this expedition is an even six dozen. The adventure is divided into side A and side B. Starting with "Brat", this is a kind of shaker with instant appeal, reminiscent of the essence of Catfish & the Bottlemen and Bad Suns. From there, it was a brother tour, because Ana and Max effortlessly exchanged voice lines on the voyeuristic upper of "Dirty". Then, the duo flirted with Adams family-style bass in the Gothic "Streets and Lies", which is full of Bauhaus, my chemical romance and the background colors of Susie and the Banshee, and in "Get Away" Dive into the dark depths of the subconscious, its creepy bloodletting voice is "Far away from pain, I will rise into the sky and wave goodbye to those who let their lives go by." It is this emotion that wears and tears in "Bullet". Re-emerged in majesty, the emotional core of The Haunt. This is a very devastating and beautiful ballad, literally and figuratively, slowly established from sparse instruments to a thorough conclusion, because her ethereal desire eclipsed the broken rainbow, "Run, I have been Running. Help me, I will never slow down." Xune magazine named Anastasia's powerful product line "A young Florence Welch with a more attitude".

Produced by Joshua Diaz and Maxamillion Haunt, the resulting tour is an appropriate start for a journey into the structure of the future, exploring all aspects and different faces of the human condition. This portrait, recorded in their base camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the product of many late nights, early mornings, quarrels, celebrations, and learning to love things that don’t always love you.

Personally, The Haunt wants to reciprocate. Derived from their family bonds and their single-minded, cookie-cutter beliefs, they strive to build meaningful rapport with their growing fan base. At the concert, they faithfully reproduced their evocative songs, each note is clear, encourages openness, and immerses you in the senses. Feel it with every cell you exist. Guide the ghosts of Karen O, Cat Power, Shirley Manson, Amy Lee (Evanescence), Lorde and Nina Simone, Anastasia is an undisputed genius, and her powerful voice can draw your attention. With Maxamillion’s telepathic balance and firm rhythm part, the quartet embodies the nature of spontaneous combustion as they suddenly appeared on the scene and quickly established a "ride or die" following before starting their first national tour in early 2018 .

Due diligence and loyalty to excellence are being paid off. The news of their provocative live performances provided a steady stream of opportunities for the band. Next is a tour of 42 cities with the gorgeous rock band Palaye Royale. They will see the band’s performance venues in Europe and the UK from September 24th to October 5th, before jumping back to the pond, from October 24th. A complete North American tour will take place from January to December. 2. At the end of the transcontinental trek, the 4K concert event filmed for Comcast Xfinity will premiere. The concert will be broadcast to 24 million families on demand. And this is just the beginning.

Jason Price Icon of Icon Vs recently interviewed Anastasia Grace and Maxamillion Haunt of The Haunt to discuss their musical roots, bring their unique voice to the public, the challenges they faced along the way, and more!

There is no doubt that music is your true love, so let's start from the beginning. What is your first memory of music?

Anastasia Grace: I started singing with my brother when I was very young. I remember singing in the shower and my family overheard me saying... "We should teach her." I remember turning on the microphone night when I was 9 or 10 years old and telling people not to look at me because I was so Shy, they look at me when I don’t like me singing! [laugh]

Go back to your humble beginnings (as an artist and a band). What made you find your creative voice so early?

Anna: We like to extract fragments from all the music we like, which has always been very diverse. In our house, there is always some different music-white stripes in the morning, Wudang in the evening. Finding our voice is basically finding out which elements of all types are best, and then combining them. We don't believe in genre-specific music. My brother is more inclined to rock and alternative, and I want to sing the blues. I think we landed somewhere in the middle.

I want to know if you remember the first time you performed on the stage? What is the experience for you?

Anna: I do remember, and I want to have a video about this. I told Max not to look at me because I was too shy. He must be close, I will not let him leave me, but he must look away! [laugh]

As an artist, who have the greatest influence on you?

Anna: Our parents have a great influence on our voice, because they cultivated us to love music. Although they basically have no musical background, it has always been a musical family, even before we became musicians. Our moms have an amazing way to find small things that listeners like to hear musicians would never think of, and it helps a lot in shaping our voice. Not to mention that our father was an amazing poet, which made us want to be a songwriter from the beginning. They have really always believed in us. When Max and I looked at each other and thought, this is our future, they immediately jumped on the boat and we never looked back. Their support gave us the confidence that many artists lacked in the early stages.

It is a big step to devote yourself to your art. Do you have any reservations about adventure?

Anna: Never. More than once. We kind of dislike anything that is not music or art. We have been studying in Montessori school since elementary school. The most important thing we learn is to think creatively and always try to do what we really like. This is definitely something we are wholeheartedly interested in. Although we know it is a risk, we never think it is a risk. It feels more like a purpose, and it sounds tacky.

Haunt has a unique voice. What made the band find this voice and direction? Was it obvious from the beginning?

Anna: I think the root of our voice comes from my longing to sing a mix of alternative rock and rock rock between blues and Max. We always knew what kind of voice we wanted, but it took us a minute to figure out how to get there and what to write or say to connect with people. Because we are too young, many people try to tell us that we don’t know our voice. This is far from the truth, and I am really glad that we got rid of anyone who feels this way. What we really need is someone who believes in our vision, and I think we have found it. However, finding your voice is a never-ending journey. I believe it will continue to grow and develop like we do.

The Haunt released its first EP in May. When entering the studio for this batch of songs, did you have any goals, ambitions or specific visions?

Anna: We are glad people heard it. It was a crazy surprise to release 6-song EP and get such a big attraction from it. We really hope it can truly represent our identity as a band, and I think we did it. We spent about 2 years writing these songs, so people seem to like them a lot, which means a lot, because we really like making them, and we put our heart and soul into them.

What challenges did you encounter when creating EPs?

Anna: The process is not so easy, but it is fun. We are constantly being told that we don't know what we want. We found a producer who believed in us and what we wanted. I think because we are still young, it is difficult for people to accept our creativity. They see us more as a canvas on which they push their voice, or what they want us to sound like. But, of course, we refused. This led to the way The Haunt EP was made, just like it was heard on the record.

You have been living with this material for some time. Which songs resonate most with you?

Maxamillion Haunt: I think the songs that resonated most with me in a while are "All Wet Black" and "Get Away". When you listen to them in their respective order, it feels that Anastasia's journey is very clear. In this dark place where she was young, she rose from the darkness and became something more powerful. "Get out of the way" is her message to everyone who tries to push her down, like "Fuck you, I'm out." I really like that.

When it comes to bringing this EP into life, what memories will come to mind?

Max: A lot of arguments, some tears and differences in ideas. But then there are these clear moments, like "Wow, this sounds like this." It must be a chaotic journey, but in the end, it does bring us closer to each other, and brings us closer to what we want to be Musician.

We are always interested in understanding the creative process of artists. Can you tell us about the songwriting process of your music?

Max: It's always different. People like to ask this question, and we are always sad to refute it, but we have no real answer. Each song is written differently. Sometimes it's just me, Anna, who writes my lyrics and melody on the piano, and Max adds input, and vice versa. Some are the cooperative efforts of our two sides.

How did you capture the original idea of the song?

Max: Lyrics, melody and many voice memo applications. Without that app, we have nowhere to go! [laugh]

Where are you looking for inspiration these days?

Max: If you work too hard, it will never come. I think it must come to you. The feeling you have on a random day at a random time. We wrote a bunch of nonsense on our mobile phones, which will eventually become a song one day. Random words or sentences that resonate in conversations, road signs, and thoughts triggered by other people’s quotations. It's really casual.

Obviously, you have a good chemistry as a band. What do you creatively bring out to each other?

Max: I think Anastasia has a creative instinct that can really stimulate people's best potential. She is not always good at conveying her ideas, so I acted as her translator. I think I'm really good at feeling her image of each song and arranging it into reality. She is very picky about what she wants, and she believes that me, Nat and Nick will respect her vision. The band dynamics from there are really loving and positive.

As a young band, what do you think is the biggest challenge you face and overcome?

Max: In our local music scene in southern Florida, there is a pretentious energy that doesn't want to be "sold out." We agree with this to a certain extent, but there are many people who think that if you make money, you will betray in some way, or if you succeed, you are no longer so cool and nonsense. So, we just decided that we would not let this mentality hinder us. Also, as I mentioned before, people think that because we are young, we don’t know what we want, or they know better. People still think they can tell us what to do, especially Anastasia, but this situation will never go well. [laugh]

There is no doubt that making a living in the music industry is a challenge. What are the pros and cons of being a working artist today? What makes you excited about the future of music?

Max: Fortunately we like this road. We really enjoy traveling, playing music live and meeting fans in person. The whole reason we do this is for fans and live performances. This makes musicians like us very lucky. It is difficult to see any shortcomings now. I know this sounds naive. Maybe come back to see us in a few years.

Where do you think you will go in the future? Is there a music field you are eager to explore?

Max: There are too many areas to explore. We have just started. We want to explore various types. We will go wherever our creativity takes us.

As an artist, there are many things to say about the music industry. What are the pros and cons of being a working artist today?

Max: Like we said, there are not many shortcomings. We are fortunate to be able to do what we like to do, which is on the road, playing music for fans and opening up for Palai. We are enjoying the time in our lives!

You are currently on tour with Palaye Royale. What aspects of this tour excite you most?

Max: So far, the opening of Palaye Royale must be the highlight of the tour. I can't explain how much we love these guys. This is not only because they gave us this great opportunity, but they are really great people and incredible musicians. They have always been where we are now, and they are great role models. We had nothing more than to be able to tour with them and see them performing live every night. During our European Tour, they were very supportive of us and we had a good time with them in the United States. We are very happy to go out and perform in front of them every night and attract new fans. It's really special!

The Haunt has lent its collective voice to an amazing organization-Stop Bullying the Foundation immediately. How did you get involved, and how did that experience feel to you?

Anna: When I was young, it was really difficult at school. In middle school, I ate lunch by myself almost every day. No one wants to sit or talk to me all day. There are many things to deal with at such a young age. The kids in school said terrible things about me, which really fascinated me. When I wrote "All Went Black", I was in a very dark place, but I was determined that I would use negative energy to do some positive things instead of letting it continue to hurt me. I want to do my best to help others who are experiencing similar things.

What is the best way for fans to help support the band and keep the project going?

Anna: Follow us on Instagram and Facebook @WeAreTheHaunt. Listen to our EP on Spotify! Keep up to date with the latest information and contact us. We always like to hear the voice of our fans. And keep an eye out for some new music coming soon!

Of course you have faced your own challenges and learned something from the time you participated in this project. What is the best lesson we can learn from your journey so far?

Anna: Trust your instincts. Don't let people tell you you can't do something or you don't know what you are talking about. Don't stop. Although we are still young, we have been doing this for almost 4 years. This has never been an easy task. But it's so fucking worth it! So go ahead.

It is great to see the @brokenlizard staff return to shoot a new feature film! Today the production of their new project QUASI has begun, which is a satire of Notre Dame's hunchback, and Kevin Heffernan of Broken Lizard will be the director. This film tells of a hapless hunchback. He only longs for love, but finds himself involved in the ferocious feud between the Pope and the French king. Both sides order the hunchback to kill each other.

Heffernan and other members of the group Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske wrote the script, and will also perform production and lead roles. Richard Perello ("Super Cavalry" series) is making this feature film starring Adrienne Paric ("Orville", "Friday Night Light"). #brokenlizard #quasi #thehunchbackofnotredame #kevinheffernan #stevelemme #ericstolhanske #jaychandrasekhar #paulsoter #adriannepalicki #comedy
