Does a dog handler who hurt a pet with an electronic collar owe a refund to the dog owner? – WSVN 7 News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

(WSVN)-She hired a trainer and he used an electronic collar on her puppy. She said it left her with a huge vet bill instead of teaching him. Does the coach need to pay? Help me Howard and Patrick Fraser have a story that all pet owners want to read.

Chewy is a kind of shipoo. Yes, it is a shipoo.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "He is a mixed breed. This is a mix of a Shih Tzu and a Poodle."

A cute puppy, as he turns into a cute dog, its hair color has changed...most of the time...

Rebeca Rodriguez: "Before he was unhappy, he was the cutest little furball."

When Chewy is unhappy, his teeth will fall out.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "He's starting to get a little aggressive... It's not too concerned about the game. It's more like an aggressive bite."

A veterinarian recommended a coach who advertised on YouTube.

Rebecca paid him $2,600 for 25 lessons...

Rebecca Rodriguez: "Although he did mention that he does not guarantee that he will get rid of all aggression, it is about 85 percent."

The contract signed by Rebeca says that the trainer will use electronic collars, and when they misbehave, you can shock them to varying degrees.

Watching the trainer use it, Rebeca was shocked.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "He would slap him in the face... it's not a heavy slap, but it's enough-over and over-to irritate him... and then whenever he gets angry , He will shock them, and it hurts to hear his cry."

Rebecca's son was frightened by the training. Rebecca didn't know what to do.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "And I think he is a professional. He must know what he is doing."

The coach wrote that this is touch therapy. Then the next day came.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "The dog started pulling blood. A few minutes later, he had a bowel movement. It was just blood, constant."

Rebecca took the dog to the vet's office, where the bill was $1,800.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "They agreed that it might be because of shock."

Then she called the dog handler and said that she was over and hoped to refund the seven unused courses and her veterinary bill.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "Absolutely not, this is his answer. He said, you signed the contract, that's it. Washed his hands, nothing more."

Rebecca hopes to spend money on training.

She never thought that this would also generate unexpected vet bills.

Okay, Howard, where is Rebecca standing?

7News legal expert Howard Finkelstein said: “Although Rebeca agreed to allow trainers to use electronic collars, when the dog was seriously shocked and caused bodily harm, they broke the contract. As a result, they not only had to refund the money for the unused courses, but also paid 1,800. U.S. dollar vet bill."

I contacted the boss of Elite Dog Training.

I asked Lazaro Sotolongo to refund the unused course money and pay the vet bill.

He said no, Rebecca did not read the contract and said he would not refund the money.

When I told him Howard disagreed, he said his lawyer would call me. I'm still waiting.

Howard Finkelstein: "Regardless of what the contract says, the trainer destroys it by hurting the dog. The best way for Rebecca now is to take them to small claims court and she might win."

Rebecca Rodriguez: "Oh, I like my little furball."

Chewy recovered from the trauma, but the impact of the electronic collar did not calm him down. They make him more aggressive.

Rebecca Rodriguez: "After that day, you can't touch his face. He will bite you because now he feels threatened."

Many coaches do not use shock collars because they think they are cruel.

I interviewed a respected South Florida trainer who taught police dogs. He told me that he would work with Rebeca's dog to help Chewy for free, but Rebeca was still trapped by the $1,800 vet bill.
