We're big fans of pets. From hilarious canine antics to adorable feline friends, we've rounded up our favorites from reader submissions to bring you our Newsweek pet of the week.

This week we've loved a glasses-wearing cat putting people at ease during optician appointments, a cat obsessed with carrying an oversized toy to his owner, and a dog's hilarious expression perfectly caught on camera as he had the time of his life.

Our pet of the week is chosen from submissions and stories from our readers about their animal friends. You can submit your pet for consideration by following the steps at the end of this article.

This week, our number one pet is 3-year-old Norwegian Forest cat Galveston. Living with his owner Rebecca Emilie Koester in Garden Plain, Kansas, this feline is both cute and clever.

Koester and Galveston started their journey together when Koester attended a cat show and met the couple who own his grandfather and father.

She told Newsweek: "I've had many farm cats, he's my first fancy cat. [I have] made a lot of friends through him at cat shows, as well as the people who have his siblings and other people who have Norwegian Forest cats."

Norwegian Forest cats, as you may expect, hail from the forests of Norway. Called the skogkatt in their native country, the large felines have long coats and furry ears. First imported into the U.S. in 1979, they can grow up to 36 inches long and weigh up to 18 pounds. A curious, playful and even-tempered breed, these fluffy felines have a reputation for getting on well with children, dogs and other cats.

Galveston isn't just a master of cuteness, he also knows how to impress with tricks. Koester told Newsweek: "I started teaching him tricks when he was about 6 months old. He was in a cat show and a judge had a cat on the bench and got him to do a high five using a cat toy. Then she got Galveston to roll over. I realized I could do that with him."

Using toys and treats, she has taught the clever kitty to high five, shake hands, fist bump, double high five, lay down and roll over.

But Koester's favorite thing about Galveston is his fearless nature. "He has to be right there investigating whatever the situation is," she explained. "I take him to the vet and camping trips on a leash and he isn't afraid of the dogs there. We have a winter home in Texas and he loves to go for walks on the beach behind our house."

Galveston also has a habit that keeps his owners in stitches—a tendency to peep on people in the shower. "He can leap from the floor to heights of around six feet," said Koester. "At our Texas house he likes to jump onto the top of the shower door and hang out for a bit while I shower."

Choosing our favorites is no easy feat—so we also wanted to give these pets a moment in the spotlight as this week's runners-up.
