Dogs hold a tennis ball in their mouths the most times, winning the Guinness Book of World Records

Many dogs like to play hide-and-seek, but there is a puppy in Canandaigua, New York that seems to be not playing enough. Finley, the Golden Retriever, can hold six tennis balls in his mouth at a time, creating the Guinness World Record for "the most tennis balls in his mouth by a dog".

Golden Retrievers have a natural retrieving motivation (hence the name), but tennis is particularly attractive to these naughty dogs. The furry toy mimics the unstable movement of small prey in the wild, encouraging golden retrievers to run and catch them instinctively. Finley began to show his love for tennis when he was a puppy, and started putting them in his mouth when he was about two years old. In 2017, he was spotted holding six balls in his mouth for the first time, but it was only recently that he won an award for his impressive feat.

"My dad would throw him a tennis ball, he would catch it, throw it away, and wait for my dad to throw another one," his owner Erin Molloy recalled. "Not just bringing one ball to my dad, he brought back all six balls! He has been a hoarder for some time!"

When Molly realized that her previous record was five tennis balls (created by a golden retriever named Augie in 2003), she decided to submit Finley's achievements to the Guinness World Records. This well-deserved dog was awarded the title, and he even organized a garden "pawty" celebration with his neighbors.

"Big news! I can officially say that I am in the @guinnessworldrecords book of 2022!" Finley wrote on Instagram. "Of course it's not easy, and it feels like forever and one day to complete! Thanks to all the friends and fans who followed my tennis journey from the beginning."

Of course, being a record holder is exciting, but all the fame can be exhausting. Since earning a place in the Guinness World Records in 2022, Finley is now "enjoying retirement."
