The new Cat 340 UHD ultra-high demolition excavator is designed to withstand the difficult demolition of tall structures. Its pin height is more than 13% higher than that of the 340F UHD and can reach up to eight floors.

More UHD and modified boom/stick configurations, as well as a series of Cat disassembly accessories, can provide greater machine flexibility to meet the contractor’s site needs to maximize machine utilization. According to the manufacturer, its unique coupling system allows switching between the two UHD front ends and the Retrofit boom and stick within 15 minutes without special tools.

The design update improves the ease of transportation of the 340 UHD excavator. The hydraulically driven variable gauge chassis is transported by providing 13 feet 4 inches of extended width and 24 inches of track shoes, which can be retracted to only 9 feet 10 inches, providing excellent stability and efficient transportation. Compared to the two-piece stand on the 340F UHD, the new one-piece stand design reduces the UHD boom transport height to less than 9 feet 10 inches.

The new 340 UHD allows the stick to be equipped with a Cat coupler to optimize the versatility and productivity of the machine. There are two UHD front options to choose from at the 72 foot 2 inch front, providing a maximum weight of 8,160 pounds at the stick pin, and a maximum of 44 feet 5 inches of horizontal range at the front and side of the stick at the front of the machine.

Using a stick pin with a maximum weight of 7,280 pounds, the 82-foot front provides a maximum reach of 43 feet 9 inches at the front of the machine and the front of the stick on the side. It matches the Cat multiprocessor series, especially MP332 and MP324.

Quickly connect/disconnect hydraulic boom pipes manually without special tools, allowing the UHD front end to be switched to a modified boom within a few minutes. Contractors can choose one-piece or two-piece boom options for high-productivity truck loading or low-level demolition work.

Three sticks are available, with lengths of 9 feet 2 inches, 10 feet 6 inches and 12 feet 10 inches, providing maximum flexibility for maximizing machine utilization. The standard Cat payload provides dynamic weighing and real-time estimation of the payload, so the operator can achieve precise load targets when using the integrated retrofit boom.

The US EPA Tier IV Final Cat C9.3B engine that powers the new 340 UHD excavator is rated at 311 horsepower and can use diesel or biodiesel fuel up to B20 to meet site requirements. According to the manufacturer, the three engine power modes—Power, Smart, and Eco—match the machine to work needs to significantly reduce the fuel consumption of the 340F UHD.

Smart mode automatically matches engine and hydraulic power requirements, provides maximum power output when needed, and reduces power to save fuel in less demanding tasks. The new high-efficiency hydraulic reversing fan can cool the engine as needed and also help reduce fuel consumption.

The operator effectively browses the machine configuration and operating parameters on the new 10-inch high-resolution touch screen display. Viewed through the new monitor, the Cat active stability monitoring system will continuously notify the operator whether the work tool is within the safe working range, and provide audible and visual warning alarms when the stability limit is approaching. From 1.5% to 100%, the length and color of the stability ratio sidebar change from green to yellow to red, depending on the ratio.

The width of the new premium heated and cooled seat has been increased by 5% compared to the previous design, and is designed to comfortably accommodate operators of all sizes. Its new left-hand tilting up the console helps increase access by 45%. The operator can program the machine operation settings, including joystick button control, and the system will store each setting according to the operator ID.

The 340 UHD adopts a 30-degree upward-inclined cab design, which can achieve more efficient demolition work, and when working on an eight-story building, the line of sight is comfortable and the neck will not be strained. In order to better observe the tools when working at heights, UHD is equipped with a working tool camera on the front.

The blasting cab is equipped with a fall prevention structure (FOGS), front and roof P5A, and 0.4 inch laminated glass to ensure safety. The windshield and roof glass have integrated parallel wipers with three intermittent settings and cleaning sprays. Standard rear-view and side-view cameras enhance the visibility of the operating area on the monitor in the cab. The 360-degree bird's-eye view camera system is optional.

Maintenance intervals for Cat 340 UHD excavators are extended and more synchronized to reduce operating costs and shorten service time. The new hydraulic filter has a 50% longer service life, improved filtration, and a 3,000-hour replacement interval, while the anti-drain valve keeps the oil clean during filter replacement. The dust holding capacity of the engine intake filter with pre-filter is twice that of the previous design.

All fuel filters are concentrated on the right side of the machine and replaced every 1,000 hours. Operators can easily track filter life and maintenance intervals on the new in-cab monitor.

The ground shut-off switch stops all fuel supply to the engine and shuts down the machine, thereby improving safety during maintenance. The machine’s new flat engine hood improves rear visibility and uses a wide opening design to simplify maintenance and oil level checks. All other routine maintenance checkpoints can be easily reached from the ground, as are the locations where the fuel system water and fuel tank water are drained to help save time. In order to efficiently collect fluid samples for analysis, all Cat S·O·S ports can be easily accessed from the ground.

In addition to the Cat payload, the new 340 UHD with a single modified boom is also equipped with a series of Cat technologies designed to increase productivity and service efficiency. Cat E-fence and Cat Grade with 2D automatically guide the depth, slope and horizontal distance to slope through the touch screen display to improve machine productivity. The machine uses GPS and GLONASS systems to automatically compensate for excavator pitch and roll caused by sloping ground conditions.

Standard Cat Product Link captures critical machine operating data and conditions, and reports this data to field managers and offices through VisionLink, thereby improving fleet management efficiency. Remote troubleshooting analyzes real-time machine data captured by Product Link for diagnosis without affecting machine productivity and saving service travel to the worksite. The remote flash memory is updated through the production plan around the machine, conveniently ensuring that the 340 UHD uses the latest version of the on-board software.
