A golden retriever named Duke has gone viral for disobeying his owner's bedtime curfew, going into the family pool for a night swim instead.

In a video shared on TikTok by the dog's owner, who goes by the username Kimberlyclark78, he can be seen chilling in the pool while ignoring his owner's attempts to call him in.

"It is 9 o'clock at night. What are you doing in the pool? It is not time to go swimming. It is not Saturday. Today is Tuesday dude," Duke's owner said in the video.

The dog still didn't get out of the pool after being told off once again, and actually managed to convince his owner to play some late night fetch in the pool.

"Ah here comes the alligator," said the dog owner, while Duke refused to high five her because he still wasn't done playing with his ball.

The video, which was first posted on Wednesday, has attracted a lot of attention online, receiving over 630,000 views, 78,000 likes and more than 1,200 comments.

According to a recent survey conducted by the American Veterinary Medical Association, dogs are still the most loved animal in the United States. About 38 percent of American households own a dog, and there are about 76 million pet dogs in the country.

Golden retrievers are very affectionate dogs, according to the American Kennel Club, and they're great with kids and with other pets too. They are among the most popular breeds in the country, and live an average of 10-12 years.

Most users loved the video and the dog. One user, doris19653, commented: "Love him, sit and drink wine, chill with him." And JuliaFaithh03 added: "I love the way you gave in really quick."

Another user, TRich51 said: "Duke said it's hot like it's Saturday." And ChrisCS agreed with Duke that "night swims are the best!" Kellyl026 said: "Duke cracks me up!"

"But mom every day is a good day for swimming, beautiful baby," joked Tammy Wilson. And Nikki Stamper pointed out: "Duke is living his best life, love you Duke." Alexanelson33 said: "Hahahahaha duke really needed that night swim."

Another user, called Ohio Sharon, wrote: "Hey Duke, tell mom this is the best time to go skinny dipping. We always did! Have fun Duke!" And Debbie Myers858pretty feet said: "Duke is enjoying the peace and quiet and having a dip leave that baby alone"

"OMG he's always in that pool lol," commented DC7032. And nela said: "If I had a pool like that I would be there all the time as duke." Dianeplume279 said: "Tuesday is the new Saturday. Duke changing the rules."

"Duke dude it's whatever day you want it to be. Don't listen to her!" said Maysie Pupper Fluffer. And nezz14070 added: "Just having a soak MOM! Calm down and get me a ball or a treat." Gurleen Atwal said: "Dogs are literally the best thing ever."
