Campagnolo Indio Jersey & Bibshorts

PEZ Sez:  Whether it’s supporting a brand you love, a desire to stand out in the bunch, or simply because you appreciate quality made kit – the iconic Italian brand’s extensive line of technical cycling apparel should have something for most riders.

I counted 16 jerseys on their website, and while this might seem like a lot, it also shows how much Campagnolo cares about the details to create such a range of jerseys.

The Indio jersey is simple, and stylish, and that’s what I like about it.  This is the jersey I’ll pull on when I want something a bit different but without having to put a lot of thought into whatever conditions I’ll encounter on the road – it’s zip up & go.

The design features set-in sleeves – my favorite for cycling kit because they can be (and are here) articulated forward to fit better when you’re on the bike.

I also like that there’s an actual collar – it’s a short one, but it adds the right amount of style without being cumbersome or adding too much material around the neck.

The bottom features a light elastic gripper, where the Campagnlo logo is made of a light silicon to add just the right amount of grip without being sticky.

The main body material is a lightly perforated polyester that breathes while still looking like you’re wearing something, but the sleeves are more openly vented. Bottom line is this one works well across a decent range of temps – from hot summer days, right into shoulder seasons – when layered over a base, or under a vest or jacket.

The three pockets in back are nice and deep to offer plenty of storage for food, tools, phone and warmers – even a light rain jacket.

Campagnolo branding is subtle and stylish – I like it.  But I really like this dark/blue – light blue colorway.  The jersey also comes in an all black version, and green/brown version.

And since kit always looks better when it matches – they also offer the Indio Bibshort ($140US).

Simply black – the color that goes with any jersey.  My testers are a size Medium, and you can see the legs are long enough to look like it’s 2022, and also add enough structure to keep ’em from slipping up.

Campagnolo say they’re designed for long distance rides – and they back it up with a good seat pad to prove it.

I like that it’s seamless – no pesky stitching along the pad to create problems in yer nether regions.  The material that meets your skin is soft, smooth and feels great.  And yes – it’s anti-microbial to help battle that funky junk that funks up yer junk.

The pad is a density, variable thickness to add cushion and comfort, but thin enough to look correct.

The back panel is vented mesh to keep you form over heating, and the straps are lazer cut, which allows them to lie nice and flat under a jersey.

The leg bands are about 3 inches deep, and speckled with tiny silicon dots that work nicely to hold the legs in place, but minimize the heat build-up that can come in this area.

Finally – tie the look together with socks to match – like these Potassio socks ($20).  Over the years I’ve learned that not all socks are created equally, and the Italians make some of the best in the world.

They’re thin, but with enough elastic, and vertical ribs knitted into the upper to stay up without issue.  These work so well, I’ve been using them for other physical pursuits, and for just plain wearing around.

Shimano IC501 Indoor Cycling Shoes Pump Up the Power and Performance and Include New FUZE Anti-Bacterial Treatment

Time is valuable. Whether at work or at play, you strive to get the most out of every day. And indoor cycling workouts are no exception. For those who take these intense sessions seriously, Shimano introduces the redesigned, top-of-the-line IC501 indoor cycling shoe that features a revolutionary new eco-friendly, non-toxic, chemical-free anti-bacterial treatment.

Whether clipping in for an hour of power in your home workout space or giving your absolute all during a high-intensity class at your favorite studio, the redesigned SPD-compatible IC501 is the no-compromise choice for serious indoor cyclists. These purpose-built performance shoes help you push harder, ride further, and challenge yourself every time you get on the bike. And now, you don’t have to worry about that post-workout funk thanks to FUZE technology – a permanent treatment that adheres to the IC501 upper material and zaps odor-causing bacteria, fungus, and mildew, helping your shoes last longer and keeping your feet fresher.

Boosted Performance No matter where you ride, efficient power transfer is critical to cycling success. Thanks to a stiff full-length, reinforced plate along the IC501 sole, you can rest assured there’s no wasted energy between you and your bike. The refined fit and solid pedaling platform of the IC501 helps you achieve that coveted maximum efficiency, getting the most watts out of every pedal stroke.

FUZE Technology Shimano’s new IC501 indoor cycling shoes are also the first shoe of its kind to incorporate innovative FUZE technology. This eco-friendly, non-toxic, chemical-free treatment permanently adheres to surfaces and zaps odor-causing bacteria, fungus, and mildew, helping extend the life of your shoe. FUZE is also proven to speed evaporation, further enhancing the cooling effect of these best-in-class indoor cycling shoes. So, ditch that funky locker room smell and instead clip in for every workout feeling fresh and ready to perform at your best.

Superior Fit Constructed with a soft and breathable mesh upper, the Shimano IC501 shoe wraps your foot for a comfortable and secure fit while also wicking away sweat and drawing air in. Reduced foot movement means less wasted energy, and along with the BOA L6K closure system and wide instep strap, your foot will stay glued in place even when you’re putting out maximum power.

With an easy twist of the dial, the BOA makes micro-adjustments that tighten or loosen the shoe to help you find the perfect fit every time. And when your cycling session is done, simply pull the BOA dial to release the shoe for a quick change, so you can get on with your day.

Walkability The IC501 inspires confidence off the bike, too. Developed specifically for indoor use, and compatible with 2-hole SPD cleats, these shoes utilize a grippy, full-length rubber outsole and a recessed cleat that sits flush with the sole to make walking on slick, sweat-splattered fitness studio floors worry-free.

Mixed Last Design The new Shimano IC501 indoor cycling shoes utilize a mixed last construction designed for a wide range of foot shapes and sizes. They come in women’s sizes 36-41 and men’s 42-48 for a superior, custom-like fit.

Availability and Where to Buy Shimano IC501 shoes are available now and can conveniently be purchased through the Shimano Indoor Cycling store: https://shimanoindoor.com

Leslie Reissner, PEZ Literary Editor has been using the Shimano IC501 Shoes, here are his thoughts: As we move into the colder weather in the Northern Hemisphere, for many of us it is time to head back to the Pain Cave to keep that fitness level up. Indoor cycling has not only seen rapid progress in terms of equipment, such as smart trainers and rocker plates, as well as impressive software capabilities to make riding more enjoyable, but also in useful accessories. Fans are a must-have, with most of us using at least two. Another early recommendation was not to use that old worn-out pair of bib shorts when riding as you spend more time on the saddle in comparison to outdoors. Some brands have come up with very lightweight clothing specifically designed for the Pain Cave. Shimano, never behind in innovation, has redesigned its IC501 shoes for increased comfort during those long slogs.

The shoes offer attractive features, such as a special anti-bacterial treatment, a breathable elastic mesh upper and a BOA® dial which tightens a double instep strap. The shoes have a rubber sole for SPD cleats, so you can actually walk in them and as well they would be easy to pack on a trip as many hotel gyms and spinning classes use SPD pedals. The shoes are available in three colours: Wine Red, Ice Gray, and Black.

Out of the box the Ice Gray examples we had impressed with their attractive appearance and high quality, as well as lightness. The size 40 shoe is claimed to have a weight of 279 g. Sizes available range from 36-41 for women, and 42-48 for men. Our example in size 45 was a true fit and with the fasteners felt immediately comfortable. But the proof would be in the riding…

One would think that using brand-new shoes on a Pain Cave torture ride would be a bad idea but the IC501s came through with flying colours as we spent over two hours riding through Death Valley, climbing nearly 1400 m, on Rouvy. You can’t have fans pointing everywhere all the time and for those who suffer from hot feet during a long ride this is no issue with these airy shoes, Plus with the FUZE anti-bacterial treatment you probably don’t need to hose them down with Lysol® as one does with regular shoes. They are comfortable enough to ride outdoors with–although you will probably want to show off your $500 carbon-soled wonder shoes at the café stop instead.

At an MSRP of $135 USD /£119.99 / A$219.95 AUD they are an excellent investment for those who spend their winter months in the Pain Cave. SPD cleats and pedals are not expensive and of course the shoes will probably not wear out in an indoor environment.

Shimano has a website devoted to their indoor cycling products and the shoes can be ordered there: shimanoindoor.com/

Riddle me this… It’s not road and it’s not mountain biking…. Must be gravel and these shirts fit the bill.

Just released, 3 new men’s designs and introducing the women’s range in this exciting new product line for Cycology.

Collared, button up and 2 hidden zip pockets. Made from stretch performance fabric. These shirts can handle it all. Cycology’s original designs have been described as ranging from ‘mild’ to ‘wild’ and this release gives you a big dose of both.

Meet ‘Totally Cactus’. An Aussie euphemism for ‘totally stuffed’. This artwork is all cactus & desert creatures…. & succulents are just dead cool.

‘Majolica’ in the new women’s range is based on one of our cult classic designs. Inspired by a love of majolica, vintage Italian and Portuguese blue & white ceramics.

Mexico baby. This shirt is aptly called ‘Tijuana’. A place of earthly pleasures. Cycling, surf, sand, tacos, brilliant art & architecture… all washed down with beer.

Full of nature’s earthly delights, ‘Secret Garden’ has been a block buster design in the women’s cycling jerseys. Our bikes take us to places you don’t know existed.

‘Legend’. It first started out as an ode to Eddie ‘The Legend’ Merckx, then became an artwork full of positive cycling affirmations. As Eddie says, ‘RIDE LOTS’.

Another classic design from the women’s jersey collection, ‘Frida’. Inspired by Frida Kahlo & the vibrant colours of Mexican folk art.

Fun shirt, party shirt, whatever you want to call them. Designed by cyclists and made for you two-wheel love’n champions.

Wahoo, the leading fitness technology company announced the launch of their newest GPS bike computer, the ELEMNT ROAM with significant new, innovative features – including dual band GPS, enhanced navigation, updated Summit Segments Climb, higher contrast screen, and upgraded memory capacity.

Navigation is at the forefront of its design and development – the ROAM makes for the most powerful and intuitive GPS bike computer to be added to the Wahoo ecosystem. The new ROAM features Dual Band GPS which delivers an enhanced and more accurate navigation experience especially when riding in areas where GPS reception can be limited – such as forests or urban areas.

The updated Summit Segments Climb feature makes it even easier than ever, for cyclists to check on the progress of a climb. This already popular feature now automatically detects climbs in a preloaded route, shows any already completed climbs, and users can view more in depth information about the current or upcoming climbs in their ride.

The ROAM boasts a 64 color high contrast screen, which allows users to easily navigate through their workout screens, while also experiencing more detailed mapping data and easier to read color coded charts, graphs and data fields.

An upgrade to the memory capacity of the ROAM to 32GB allows users to manage and store a greater number of regional map packs and stored routes. A 17 hour, long lasting battery life also means it is easier than ever for riders to stay on course for longer.

The new ELEMNT ROAM integrates seamlessly into Wahoo’s connected ecosystem of indoor and outdoor training solutions. Now riders can sync their workouts on the ROAM with their Wahoo X subscription, allowing them access to outdoor structured workouts and a complete indoor and outdoor workout history in the Wahoo SYSTM app. The ROAM also controls all KICKR Smart Trainers and the KICKR BIKE and it pairs with all of Wahoo’s other connected devices. This gives cyclists ultimate flexibility when it comes to their workouts – whether indoor or outdoor, the ROAM can support.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce the latest edition in our bike computer range. The new ELEMNT ROAM works to make riders’ GPS experience as seamless and accurate as possible, while also providing unsurpassed data accuracy for athletes in a simple, easy to use product.” said Wahoo CEO Mike Saturnia. “Three years ago, the ROAM was released with the mission of enabling cyclists to ride further and explore new boundaries. The new ROAM with it’s array of new features build on this mission and positions this product as the premier bike computer for any cyclist seeking performance, ease of use and unsurpassed routing capability.”

He added: “The Wahoo X and ROAM integrated capabilities is another step forward in building the most innovative and connected ecosystem for cyclists and endurance athletes.”

The ELEMNT ROAM also adds a whole host of new features to its existing set, these now include USB-C charging capabilities, convex buttons, an ambient light sensor, perfect view zoom options, quicklook LED’s, on-device smart navigation and seamless multisport handover to name but a few.

The ELEMNT ROAM 2.0 allows riders to sync their outdoor workouts through Wahoo X, bringing these workouts indoors to integrate into the new KICKR Smart Trainer and BIKE workouts, in addition to other Wahoo products.

A full review of the new Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM by Chuck Peña will be forthcoming on PEZ.
